On 26 October 2018 at 8pm the Doppelgaenger Gallery will open the secondo one–man show by the French painter Gaël Davrinche entitled Strolling along the chromatic fields.
This new body of work is strongly influenced by the way in which natural elements affect our perceptions and recounts how painting conveys our interpretations in ever fresh ways. Once again, Davrinche depicts his own personal hymn to painting. As art critics have so often underlined, the artist employs with consummate skill and flourish both the paintbrush and the history of art.
In his way of representing Nature, the artist seems to set up a dialogue with the great French painters of the late 19th/ early 20thcentury: from the realism of the Barbizon School – which we find in Nocturnes – to Monet’s waterlilies, which seem to be evoked in the rarefied, quasi–oneiric floral representations of Nebulae. This landscape of flowers and plants is the trait d’union between the grandiose human figure – the only one in the exhibition – and the installation of 40 Chromatic Fields, in which, with a reference to Rothko, the colours of Nature find their extreme synthesis in pure abstraction.

Born in France, Gaël Davrinche graduated in painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Davrinche is a prolific and eclectic painter, internationally recognized, with a rich resumé of personal exhibitions in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and China. His works have been acquired by the Musée Ingres of Montauban, the FRAC and the Fondation Salomon pour l’art contemporain. Among his most recent exhibitions: Défigure (s) at the Fondation Ecureuil in Toulouse, Memento Mori at the Ego Gallery in Lugano, Insight, at the Magda Danysz gallery in Shanghai and Primitiv Heritage at the A2Z Gallery di Hong Kong.
